You want a Philly cheesesteak in Pigeon Forge, and honestly, I get it. Between the airbrush t-shirt shops and the pancake houses, a proper chopped steak on a roll becomes a holy grail.

So I ate them all, from Bigfoot’s two-fisted, shareable monster to a dry, sauce-less mistake at a barbecue joint that shall remain nameless. Tennessee Jed’s might have the best reuben in the state, but the chase for this sandwich took me to places I never expected, including a pizzeria where I drank a Coke and felt zero judgment.

Consider this your map, and my apology for how much cheese you are about to consume.

Generous, shareable portions
Fresh, made-to-order sandwiches
Genuine, friendly owner
Flavor-packed Philly cheesesteaks
Worth the higher price

Bigfoot Philly Cheesesteaks is the place that made me question every sandwich I’d eaten before. The owner greeted me like an old friend, then handed over a monstrosity of a cheesesteak that required two hands and a serious appetite. It’s priced higher than the competition, and I paid without flinching. The meat was juicy, the cheese melted into every crevice, and the bread held up like a champion. Portions are shareable, if you’re weak-willed. I wasn’t. This is the benchmark, the one I’ll measure all others against. Go hungry. Leave humbled.

Fried chicken perfection
Creamy mac and cheese
Flaky, honey-glazed biscuit
Warm, welcoming service
Generous, hearty portions

Mama's Chicken Kitchen may not scream 'cheesesteak,' but I walked in skeptical and walked out a convert. The fried chicken is a masterpiece, sure, but their cheesesteak? It arrives on a soft roll, packed with shaved beef and gooey cheese, and it’s honestly better than half the dedicated spots in town. The mac and cheese on the side is creamy, and the honey-glazed biscuit is a sweet, flaky distraction I didn’t need but devoured anyway. Service is warm, like a hug from someone’s grandmother. Portions are hearty. I left full, happy, and slightly confused about why I ever doubted Mama.

Homemade pretzels worth returning for
Generous portions, fair Pigeon Forge prices
Warm, family-style counter service
Quality ingredients, clearly tasted

Pigeon Forge Deli is the unassuming counter where I found my weekday cheesesteak fix. The bread is fresh, the ingredients are quality, and they make it to order, which means you wait a few minutes and get something worth waiting for. The homemade pretzels are a dangerous side, salty and soft, and I’ll return just for those. Prices are fair for the area, and the family-style service makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. Nothing fancy, just honest food done right. That’s a rare thing. I’ve already planned my next trip.

Bold sweet potato fries
Speedy, friendly service
Betty White burger wins
Worth the short wait

Cookie Dough Monster is a name that suggests dessert, not cheesesteak, but I’m here to tell you: don’t sleep on their burger-steak hybrid. The Betty White burger is the winner, a beefy, cheesy mess that satisfies a different craving. But the cheesesteak? It’s solid, though the real star is the sweet potato fries, bold and crispy with a hint of cinnamon. Service is speedy, even when they’re busy, and the wait is short. It’s a playful spot, and the staff seems to enjoy the chaos. Not the most traditional cheesesteak, but a fun detour. I’d go back just for the fries, honestly.

Highlights
Retro diner with jukebox
Cheese choice on burgers
Onion rings steal show
Quick, friendly service
Open late, six days

Mel's Classic Diner is a retro time capsule, complete with a jukebox that actually works. I ordered a cheesesteak, but the real show was the onion rings, which arrived golden, greasy, and perfect. The steak itself was decent, but the cheese selection on their burgers is the real draw. Service was quick and friendly, and the place stays open late six days a week, which is a blessing after a long day of hiking. It’s not the best cheesesteak in town, but it’s a solid late-night option. The jukebox played some Elvis, and I didn’t hate it. I might come back for the rings alone.

Best reuben in Tennessee
Massive portions, fair price
Unbelievably fresh ingredients
Insanely good local kombucha
Fast, friendly service

Tennessee Jed's is where I found the best reuben I’ve ever had, and maybe the best cheesesteak too. They call it a craft sandwich, and that’s not hype. The bread is fresh, the meat is tender, and the portions are massive. You could feed a small army for what they charge, and that’s a bargain. The local kombucha on tap is an unexpected delight, tangy and fizzy, cutting through the richness. Service is fast and friendly, even when they’re slammed. I walked out stuffed, a little buzzed on fermentation, and already planning my next excuse to drive back. Worth the hype, every word.

Highlights
Welcoming staff even late
Fresh, tasty pizzas
Fried mac and cheese bites
Polite, efficient service

Pizza at The Cove might be known for pizza, but their cheesesteak is a quiet contender. The staff welcomed me warmly even though I stumbled in late, and they didn’t rush me. The cheesesteak arrived hot, messy, and exactly what I needed. The fried mac and cheese bites on the side were a decadent mistake I’ll repeat. It’s not the most adventurous spot, but it’s reliable, and the service is polite and efficient. The only downside is that you might crave a slice of pizza while you’re there. I did. I ordered one. No regrets.

Wood-fired pizza worth waiting
Attentive service amid chaos
Sweet server, custom drinks
Welcoming, repeat-visit vibe

Gatlinburg Brewing Company is a bit of a trek from Pigeon Forge, but I made the drive for their wood-fired pizza, and I stayed for the vibe. The service was attentive even when the place was swamped, and my server remembered my drink order from a previous visit. That’s the kind of place this is. I didn’t get a cheesesteak here, but their pizza is so good I’d bet on their steak game too. Custom drinks are a plus, and the atmosphere makes you want to linger. I ended up staying two hours, nursing a pint and watching the crowd. Worth the wait, always.

Highlights
Ribs tough but flavorful
Sauces truly excellent
Sides like beans and mac shine
Garlic biscuit a winner
Service friendly and welcoming

Bennett's Pit Bar-B-Que is a barbecue joint, so why did I order a cheesesteak? Curiosity. The ribs were tough but had great flavor, and the sauces are genuinely excellent, but the cheesesteak? It was fine. The meat was a little dry, and the cheese didn’t melt enough. But the sides stole the show: beans, mac, and a garlic biscuit that could be a meal by itself. Service is friendly and welcoming. I wouldn’t come here for the cheesesteak, but I’d come back for the biscuit and the sauce. It’s a solid pit stop, just not a cheesesteak destination. Honest assessment.

Highlights
Fresh ingredients, tasty pizza
Attentive, amazing service staff
Crispy wings, non-greasy pie
Unpretentious, worth the trip

Pizzeria of Gatlinburg surprised me. I went in expecting a tourist trap, and left with a smile. The pizza is fresh, the ingredients are tasty, and the service staff is amazing, attentive without hovering. Their cheesesteak is decent, but the crispy wings are the real underdog. The pie was non-greasy, which is a miracle. It’s unpretentious, and that’s what makes it worth the trip. The waitress even suggested a wine pairing, which I ignored because I was drinking a Coke. She didn’t judge. That’s class. I’d return for the wings and the hospitality.

Highlights
Great food, fast seating
Kid-friendly arcade fun
Attentive, fantastic waitstaff
Warm, welcoming atmosphere
Family-favorite pizzeria spot

Big Daddy's Pizzeria is a family joint with an arcade, and I felt like a kid again. The food came fast, and the waitstaff was fantastic, attentive to every need. I ordered a cheesesteak, and it was fine, a solid middle-of-the-pack effort. But the real draw is the atmosphere, warm and welcoming, with kids laughing at the games. The pizza is likely their best bet, but I didn’t regret my choice. Portions are generous, and the service is quick. If you have kids, this is your spot. Me? I’ll stick to the pizza next time, but I won’t complain about the steak.

Highlights
Views worth the wait
Onion soup with character
Server turned chaos to calm
Fries steal the spotlight

Cliff Top Restaurant at Anakeesta offers views that are worth the wait, and the onion soup is full of character. I didn’t order a cheesesteak here, but I watched someone else get one and felt a pang of envy. The fries, though, stole the spotlight: crispy, seasoned, and impossible to stop eating. My server turned a chaotic rush into calm, handling my every request with grace. The view of the Smokies is the real star. It’s not the place for a cheesesteak, but it’s the place for an experience. I’ll come back for the soup and the silence of the mountains. Maybe next time, I’ll try the steak. Maybe not.
