You can judge a town by its grocery store, and Gatlinburg is a strange place to shop. Between the pancake houses and airbrush T-shirt shops, you’ll find a Pepper Palace that hands out hot sauce samples like candy and a Food City where the produce actually holds up for a week.

Pepper Palace is my go-to spot for hot sauce in Gatlinburg. The staff are friendly and helpful, always ready with a recommendation. I love that they let you sample everything before you buy. Kilwins is a sweet stop I never miss. The staff are welcoming and always in a good mood. They have a huge selection of ice cream flavors, so there's something for everyone. But the real star is their homemade fudge. It's rich, creamy, and melts in your mouth. The place feels cozy, perfect for a quiet treat. I've been back multiple times and I'll keep going back. It's a simple pleasure that never gets old.

Old Dad's General Store is a true gem. The people there are the best in town, always cheerful and eager to help. The owner, Shane, is wonderful and clearly cares about his customers. They have great camping supplies, which is perfect if you're heading into the park. And of course, the s'mores supplies are a must-have. I will say the burger and fries were a bit disappointing, but that's not why I go. I go for the service and the gear.

Food City is the grocery store I keep coming back to in Gatlinburg. It sits right on the East Parkway, easy to reach. The aisles are wide and well organized. I found everything on my list without hunting. The produce section is fresher than I expected for a tourist town. Prices are reasonable, which matters when you're feeding a family for a week. The checkout lines move fast. Staff are polite but not pushy. It's not fancy, but it's dependable. That's what I want from a grocery store. I left with a full cart and no complaints. I'll be back before I leave town.
