Every city has a definitive stack of lamb; ours sits somewhere between the West Town Mall food court and a storefront on the Strip. We ate through pita, loaded tzatziki, and enough shawarma to fuel a month of unpaid internships.

Some spots nail the traditional lamb and tzatziki, while others reinvent the idea of a wrap, focusing on halloumi or spicy potato fillings. I will even stand in line during a packed Market Square event for an honest gyro.

Knox Bros does things right. The meat is fresh and flavorful, clearly handled with care. I appreciate a kitchen that pays attention. The staff works hard, and it shows in the service. Every visit has been consistent, which is rare. They recently opened a second location, so getting a gyro is easier than ever. That convenience matters. I have no complaints. If you want a reliable meal without fanfare, this is the place. I will be back.

Cumberland Food Hall serves some serious fast food. The gyros are hot and good, exactly what you want. The fries are crispy, though they come without condiments, so ask for sauce. The classic Philly is smoking hot and hits the spot. I even tried the burger, and it was worth a laugh, I enjoyed it. Prices are fair, especially if you use the Mealswipe deal. It is not fancy, but it is efficient. I left full and happy. That is enough for me.

KoPita Authentic Mediterranean is a hidden gem, though I am not supposed to say that. The staff is kind and welcoming. Your food is eaten to the last bite, which is the highest compliment. The kefta portions are generous and perfectly spiced. The baklava is worth ordering as a finish. It is a perfect lunch spot, quiet and comfortable. I went in not knowing what to expect. I left planning my next visit. Simple, honest, and very good.

Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe on Clinton Highway surprised me. The staff was friendly, even near closing time, which says a lot. For a chain, the lamb is high quality, better than most independent places. The atmosphere is clean and chill. I had a gyro and a side salad, both fresh. A Greek friend of mine praised this location, and now I understand why. It is a healthy option in a sea of fast food. I will stop by again when I am in the area.

King Gyros Mediterranean is the top food court choice, in my opinion. The lamb shawarma is the best I have had in Knoxville. It is juicy, well-seasoned, and piled high. The staff is friendly and outgoing, making the counter service enjoyable. The tzatziki and hummus are both great, creamy and full of flavor. Food courts can be hit or miss, but this place is a hit. I make a point to visit whenever I am at the mall. Do not skip it.

Yassin’s Falafel House is a regular spot for me. The gyro plates are consistent, and that is what I value. Amazing every time, no surprises in a bad way. The staff is welcoming and professional. Parking is easy, which is a plus in Knoxville. It is in a strip mall, but do not let that fool you. The food is fresh and the portions are solid. I have been many times, and I will keep coming back. It is dependable and delicious.
